Our stance on AI Generated Art

Overview

At All The Artists, our mission is to celebrate human creativity, support working artists, and maintain a platform rooted in integrity, originality and quality. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, we know it is influencing every corner of the creative world. AI can be an exciting tool for ideation and experimentation, but it also raises serious concerns around ethics, authorship, sustainability, and creative labor.

This article explains our stance on AI-generated art, what we allow, what we discourage, and how we handle listings that do not meet our standards.

How We View AI in the Creative Process

We recognize that AI technology has unlocked new forms of expression and new tools for creative workflows. Many artists today use AI as one part of their process in thoughtful, intentional ways. We respect that.

At the same time, we have reservations about:

  • How many AI models were trained on copyrighted materials without the consent of the artists whose work was used
  • The intellectual property questions surrounding derivative outputs
  • The environmental impact of large-scale AI data centers
  • The rapid emergence of mass-produced, low-effort imagery that devalues original work

For these reasons, we approach AI with both openness and caution.

AI as a Tool vs. “AI Slop”

AI, when used with intention and craft, can be part of an artist’s toolkit — no different from photography, 3D software, or digital compositing. What matters is the vision, skill, and authorship behind the work.

However, All The Artists does not allow “AI Slop” in member listings.

AI Slop refers to:

  • Low-quality, mass-produced images or videos generated with little effort
  • Content that lacks artistic intention, authorship, or meaningful creative decision-making
  • Outputs that appear generic, nonsensical, or visually inconsistent
  • Work produced solely by typing a prompt into a generator with no additional creative contribution

Our platform exists to showcase artists and creators. AI Slop does not align with that mission.

What’s Allowed

We allow listings that feature:

  • Original work meaningfully created by an artist, even if AI was used as part of the process
  • AI-assisted work where the artist contributes significant creative direction, editing, or transformation
  • Thoughtful experimentation where the artist’s hand and ideas are clearly present

Key principle: The work must show meaningful human creativity.

What’s Not Allowed

We do not allow listings that:

  • Contain AI Slop
  • Are clearly generated with minimal effort or artistic input
  • Feel mass-produced, low-quality, or indistinguishable from generic AI outputs
  • Attempt to pass fully AI-generated content off as original authored work
  • Are uploaded solely to game the system, fill space, or boost profile visibility

If a listing contains media we believe falls into this category, it may be flagged. Members will receive a notice asking them to remove or replace the content.

Why This Policy Exists

Our goal is to protect:

  • The quality of our platform
  • The careers of working human artists
  • The value of original creative labor
  • The trust artists place in our community

AI is not the enemy, but unintentional, low-effort, mass-generated content can make it harder for real artists to be discovered and supported.

How We Enforce This Policy

We review reports and flagged content using the following considerations:

  • Does the work show meaningful artistic intention?
  • Does it appear to be mass-generated or extremely low-effort?
  • Is the AI use obvious, generic, or inconsistent with the artist’s broader portfolio?
  • Does the work risk diminishing the quality of the platform?

We always aim to approach reviews respectfully and fairly. When content is flagged:

  1. We notify the member privately
  2. We explain the concern
  3. We ask for replacement media or clarification
  4. Repeated violations may result in further action

Challenges and Subjectivity

Art is subjective, and we acknowledge these challenges upfront:

  • AI detection is imperfect.
Some work will be hard to classify, and mistakes are possible.
  • Styles overlap.
AI can imitate real artists, and real artists can produce work that resembles AI.
  • Creative processes vary.
Some artists use AI for early ideation but refine heavily afterward.
  • We do not want to police creativity.
Our goal is to preserve the integrity of the platform, not to stifle experimentation.

Because of this, we prioritize context, intention, and quality over rigid rules.

How Members Can Avoid Issues

To help keep the community strong, we encourage artists to:

  • Only upload work that represents their own creative practice
  • Share process notes if your AI-assisted work may be misunderstood
  • Avoid uploading raw, unedited, generic AI outputs
  • Use AI intentionally, not to mass-produce content

Our Commitment Moving Forward

As AI continues to evolve, we will revisit and refine this policy. Our promise is to remain transparent, fair and thoughtful as we balance innovation with protecting artists’ livelihoods.

If you have questions or feedback about this policy, you can contact our support team at any time.
